Žiga Sever Visual Diaries

  • 20. 1. – 22. 2. 2026
  • Centre for Illustration, Vodnik Homestead Gallery, Ljubljana

Motifs, patterns, and routines that gradually develop throughout the project open up reflections on everyday practices and their repetition. Although in his master’s thesis the author situates his diaries within a broader theoretical context of discussions on everyday life and the impact of technology, the entries themselves remain closer to the immediate recording of experience. Žiga’s attempt at an apparently neutral, almost objective outline of reality gradually shifts into a distinctly subjective experience—both for himself and for the viewer.

The exhibition project presents a comprehensive collection of original visual diaries by Žiga Sever, which the artist has been creating for several years as a personal exploration of visual thinking, introspection, and the visual reflection of everyday life. The diaries encompass a wide range of artistic techniques; each sketchbook functions as an independent whole, while at the same time chronologically continuing the visual flow of the previous one. Through methods of observation, recording, and an autobiographical approach, the artist explores how long-term, routine diary-keeping influences the development of his visual language, as well as the transformation of the diaries themselves.
